Still no internet in basement. We're working on that (hoping that the wireless connection from upstairs will reach, thus saving us even more money that we can add to the "house fund."). Jeff is here for the week. He had a conference in Denver over the weekend and already had this trip to Utah planned months ago. It's so nice to have him here. What am I going to do without him for a whole month (I'll tell you one thing I'll do, and that's lay off the chick flicks and romance novels, ha!).
I took a quick trip to St. George last week to surprise my mom. It was her 50th birthday and even though she didn't feel like celebrating, everyone wanted to show their love for her. Seriously, can anyone be more loved than my mom? I doubt it. Check out her blog for details and a seriously awesome pic of Kyla scarfing down some cake. I had a great time with the family and can't wait to be with them again soon.
I nearly failed as a parent this week. Honestly, there are only a few things that parents need to do not to fail their children. Besides the basic things like feed, clothe, shelter, you should provide a good example for them to follow, teach them to love God and never break a promise to them. Oh, and don't forget to leave them money from the tooth fairy. That's the one that got me. Damon lost two teeth this week after months of claiming that they were loose.
The first one was no big deal, I still had a dollar left in my wallet. But the second one took me by surprise. It was Sunday when it popped out and I kept putting off thinking about what I would do once he was asleep, knowing full well that I had already given him my last dollar only a couple nights before. Secretly I hoped that he would forget to put it under his pillow so I could have another day to come up with some money. But he remembered. And I forgot. I woke up at 5:00 am with only one thought on my mind. CRAP! I grabbed my wallet and searched through it, hoping a dollar had appeared while I slept (that can happen, right?). Nothing. I searched the coins and found four quarters (where did those come from?). I wrote a very quick note from the tooth fairy and sneaked into his room. Phew. Catastrophe avoided. But when I saw the note I had written a few hours later, I had to laugh. It was obvious I was half asleep and writing in the dark. At least Damon didn't act suspiscous. And for now, I still haven't failed him as a parent.

If that's failing my childrne....I'm a goner for sure! I ALWAYS seem to forget the tooth fairy. this last year....we "saved face" and pulled a quarter out of the drawer and said the tooth fairy must have left it for him in here because this is wehre he pulled it. Then they all seemed to be losing their teeth at once....and i kept forgetting about it once they were asleep. So we killed the tooth fairy! I don't feel too bad...we killed the easter bunny the same year! :) Santa is still alive and kicking though!!!!!;)
that's hilarious! you know, being kid-less, i often think about the everyday things like feeding them, taking to school etc... but never once thought about stuff like tooth fairy duties! i'm glad that everything worked out with damon! he is so lucky to have a great mom like you!
So what did the note say?
Payton lost two teeth at once and decided to hold on to one for a few days. Only problem is she didn't tell me when she finally decided to put it under her pillow. She came crying into my room saying the toothfairy didn't leave her anything. I started questioning her about it trying to find a loophole and decided to go with "it came out from under her pillow and was laying on the side of the bed" We would do a better job the next night with the actual tooth placement. What do you know, it worked!
Oh, PHEW, I thought you were going to say you totally forgot and he was so sad! I'm so relieved. You should have put a picture of the note on the blog. :)
so glad you got to go see your mom. I looked at her blog and it neat. She is so positive and sounds great -- considering all she has to deal with now.
Glad the tooth fairy could make two visits. I still remember my parents forgetting and having major meltdowns because of it. :) Glad to hear you are safe and sound in UT. Best of luck without Jeff. Thank goodness it is not for too long. What a fun surprise trip to St. George! I'm sure it meant the world to your mom.
