So, there will be no baby named "Cruz." Not that we would have really used that for a name, but it would have been fun to joke about. And as much as I try to be understanding and patient, I can't help but feel a little bummed out.
Couple that with more disappointment in our house hunting, and I found myself having a bad week. Back in March, we found a house that we loved in Provo. It had a finished basement and yard, and had many of the things we look for in a house (3 car garage, big family room next to the kitchen, master bedroom on the main floor, office for Jeff, etc), but we knew we wouldn't be able to pay what the sellers were expecting. To make a long story short, they approached us and offered to lower the price if Jeff would be willing to do some braces for them in return. It seemed like it was meant to be, and we went through the loan process to see how much we could qualify for. We had to make a decision before we left on our cruise, and even though we found a way to make it work financially, neither Jeff or I felt good about it after praying about it. We both felt uneasy, and took that to mean that it just wasn't right. I feel like it was the right house, but not the right time. So, we decided to keep looking. Last week, we went to see some more houses in another neighborhood in Provo that we really like (there are only two neighborhoods in Provo we would consider living in), and were disappointed in both of those, knowing right away that we didn't want either of them.
I know there is a house out there for us, and that we will find just what we want (and not feel sick inside when we think about buying it), and most of the time I am not in a big rush to get out of here. Most of the time, I understand that we are better off staying here at least a few more months (until Jeff gets a raise), and I don't have a problem with it. But every now and then, I get a little anxious. I start to let little things irritate me (like the lack of a dishwasher), and before long, I have mentally composed a long list of things I dislike about where we are at.
That's what happened last week. But to make matters worse, I was already hosting a pity party for myself because I am still not pregnant, so the irritation I allowed myself to feel was magnified severely. Jeff and I were lying in bed one night, and he asked me, "where do you want to live?" I started telling him about how frustrated I had become with the whole house hunting process, and ended up going on and on about everything else that was bothering me. Poor man, never saw it coming. But he was sweet, and assured me that everything will work out, and I know that they will. I just needed to unload, and I did feel much better after getting it all out, although I admitted to him, "that wasn't a very good answer to your question, was it?"
Since that night, I have been thinking a lot about my life and have been feeling very grateful for what we have. I know we are so blessed (beyond what we deserve, in my opinion), and I started feeling ashamed that I had ever let the little things irritate me so much. Yesterday I was rereading President Monson's talk from October conference, Joy in the Journey, and one part really stood out to me. He told the story of a woman named Borghild Dahl who was born with a severe visual impairment. But despite this limitation, she was never bitter, but instead was filled with gratitude for her blessings. At the age of 92 she published a book called Happy All My Life. That's when it hit me--that needs to be my new motto. No matter what, I want to be happy. And not just when we have another baby or when we find the perfect house, but today, right now.
So, now it's a new week. And I have a new goal. A few, actually. I am going to be happy. I am not going to stress about getting pregnant, but am going to enjoy spending time with the three amazing kids I have. I am not going to feel sorry for myself because I don't yet have the house I thought we would by now, but am going to enjoy not having a bigger house to clean. I am going to be happy. Good luck to me!

Good luck Krystal. I am praying for you to find happiness AND have a new baby plus your own house. That Jeff's a keeper. I hit Rick with one of those unexpected unloads the other night too.
what a great goal! i'm going to try that one on for size too... i totally know what you mean though about looking into the future. i remember this great talk elder bednar gave about "living in the now". it was such a great reminder to me to stop and enjoy all that i already have. :)
Soemtimes I'm a little disappointed that I'm not pregnant yet either. But hey, good thing you have that Jeff to unload. For now, my cabbage patch doll will have to do :)
Well, I know how you feel, but about different things. I too have been making an effort to be happy in the here and now, and not wish for things I don't have. I have been amazed at how much happier Samuel is, simply because I'm letting him know I really am happy. Anyway, good learning lesson for all of us, good luck with your quest. Dang those dishes though.
Thanks for the reminder. I really enjoy the honesty in your posts. Good luck in all your current quests!
Im right there with you in the house hunt and how frustrating it is....
Wonderful words of advice for all of us. Thanks for the reminder.
Hey Krys,
Don't be too shocked! This is Wayne. LOL! (Jeff I told myself I would not leave comments on blogs just doesn't feel right lol!) Well, I am sitting in class somewhat listening to the lecture. I decided to read my wife's blogs and started reading the rest of the family's blogs as well. Krys I must say this is a great blog. This is one thing I have been learning in the last little while. Just appreciating what I have already. And it's really a lot to be thankful for. Your blog just helped me even more. Thank you! (Jeff we will chat later and you can let me have it for this LOL!) I sure am happy about CANCUN!
Great post...Im going to go read Pres Monsons talk again. I do hope you find the perfect home to have a new baby in though! You are so lucky to be buying now when there are so many options and so much cheaper than a couple of years ago!
Great post! If everyone could be happy. It seems so simple but it is hard at times. You have inspired me to look at all the positives :).
GREAT post Krystal! That is something I really need to work on right now too. I keep stressing about when Dave is going to find a job and where we are going to live and when we are going to sell our condo and the list goes on and on and on. But I don't want to wait to be happy - I need to be doing it today instead of hoping I am happy when all this is said and done with!
Thanks for the reminder!
I've heard you get prego easier when you are not stressing about it. We are moving up that way. I am not looking forward to house hunting. We are just going to rent because we will be moving again about 6 months after we get up there if things go as planned.
Wonderful advice!! I'm trying to find those moments of joy in my life and be happier. I wish you luck!! About the pregnancy thing, it would constantly consume my mind and I would feel so frustrated and sad. I had to continually tell myself to not think about it and try to live my life. Much easier said than done.
I loved that happy all my life story...it gives me the chills no matter how many times I read it. So true that we all live with such abundance around us taht all it takes to be happy is just to see it. That being said, there are tough times and hard decisions also. I know you will make it through yours.
This was a very inspiring post Krystal. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
You have a lot of blog readers! :) I just wanted to let you know that I want you to live in Orem. :) We have houses in my neighborhood for sale that might fit your criteria. And even though you're not focusing on houses right now, maybe you could just take a peek? But you are so right about Pres. Monson's talk. Whenever I complain about my kids driving me nuts, I think about my sister who was barely able to have 1. I'm trying to enjoy the chaos that is my life right now.
It can be so easy to let life get you down. Thanks for the good reminder to just be happy no matter what.
I loved that talk too. It's something we all need to be reminded of often. I found myself thinking the same things--about being happy even though I'm not pregnant, and being happy even though our little apartment is bursting at the seams and I want a house. Thanks for the reminder!
Ok, I officially have an RSS feed thingy. It's: http://farleyRSS.blogspot.com
I'm finally catching up on blog reading. I love this post and can totally identify with everything you wrote (especially about the unloading to your husband while lying in bed!!) Seriously, Porter has been a champ all these years at realizing I just need to vent or cry or whatever. They're good boys. I have actually been trying to adopt this similar attitude lately--happiness even when it's not something that's expected or my favorite. Thanks for the gentle reminder. :)
I'm feeling the same way. Pres Monson's talk today seemed to echo that one you quoted.
Just yesterday I was telling me mom how wonderful it is to be in a small house...because I can use the same plug for the vacuum for the entire house! Wow--beat that! The small perks :0
