I think we were all expecting something big to happen.
A year ago, my mom cut off all her hair, a year earlier than she planned...
My dad was released from his calling as a member of the bishopbric of a young single adult ward..
My mom was released from her calling as Young Women's president...
We all wondered, what was coming? A call to the Stake Presidency? But Stake Conference came and went and that wasn't it.
Wayne and Tara decided to stay at Dixie for a few years instead of moving...
Heather and Samuel decided it was time to move closer to home, and relocated from Hawaii to Las Vegas, much closer to the family...
Jeff will be finished with school in 3 months and we will be living in Utah for the first time in six years...
What was coming?
We found out a few weeks ago.
My mom has breast cancer. Even typing that makes me feel like I swallowed a rock. She found a lump, had it removed, and heard the bad news about what it actually was. She had a second surgery where 20 lymph nodes were removed from under her arm. It was in 2 of the 20. Now she will have to go through chemo as well as radiation, which could put her out of commission for the next year. She'll lose her hair and won't be able to take long trips to see her grandkids. Wait, she already parted with her hair (most of it) and soon none of her grandkids will be more than 4 hours away...isn't that interesting?
We all feel that this is the Lord's will. It's serious, as all cancer is, but everyone is hopeful that she will make a full recovery. And maybe we have been prepared for a while now, as it hasn't been much of a shock for any of us. My mom admitted that she knew she was going to have to have chemo from the very beginning, knowing that anything else would be "too easy." She is already talking about how much she has learned and how tender her heart has become. It's just a bump in the road, something that will enable our family to become closer to each other and closer to the Lord.
We all made our picks for March Madness this year, and we named my mom's team "Kancer Killer." As of today, Kancer Killer is in first place in our league. That makes me smile, and also makes me think that she is going to come out on top. Where she belongs.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Cancer is not a fun thing to hear when it is associated with your family. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I know the Lord is aware of your circumstances and will be watching over all of you.

Isn't it amazing how the Lord works. I am so glad that you see that because so many don't realize how he sets us up to be able to handle the trials given. You mom is strong. I remember when her and Kim Judd found their lumps about 10 years ago at the same time and what a scare that was. I know the strength your mom has and the faith she has too. My prayers are with you all.
Krystal... I am so sorry to hear the news about your mom but as you so poignantly pointed out, the Lord has definitely placed all of you where you need to be in life right now. What a blessing it will be for all of you to be so close to her during this new challenge. We will definitely keep our prayers with you and your family. Even though I don't know your mother, and I haven't seen you in years, it is so wonderful how the gospel keeps our friendships and relationships with people strong. If you need anything, let me know. I am sorry to hear about your mother. I believe the Lord helps us through all our trials, and He will be with your family through this. It is great that your family will all be closer to her these next few years. That is amazing how that worked out. Hugs from Vegas.
First of all, I'm amazed that you read my blog... with all the others on your list! Thanks for your comment. Second, I am so sorry to hear that about your mom. We have had a few breast cancer battles in my family as well. My Aunt just defeated it last year. I'm glad you have an optimistic outlook as that will help your mom heal even more quickly. I really hope someday they find a cure for it.
My mom had a tough battle with cancer and chemo. I know it will be hard for all of you, and I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow! That was shocking to hear! I really liked your post-so positive. I had no idea that your mom had a lump 10 years ago and now to have this! I will definitely keep her in my prayers. It can't be a coincidence that you will all be closer in the next few months. A strong family, a strong woman, and faith, will help you all get through this!:) I will pray and wish for the best!
oh my goodness, this just breaks my heart. I love your mom - always have. But one thing is for sure and that she is a fighter! She can do this!

The pics from NC looks so great and sounds like a fun trip! You taken a pregnancy test to see about that "flu" or "food poisoning" of yours? :)
krystal i'am so sorry to hear about your mom. shortly after i had hudson we found out my dad might have cancer, and it ended up being negative. but, i will always remember how awful that was just waiting to hear the results. i truly feel for you and your family! we will keep you and your mom in our prayers...

I'm so sorry about your Mom and am glad to hear that you are all doing so well. The Lord definitely works in "mysterious" ways, doesn't he? I'll be praying for you and your Mom--she has so much spunk and life in her that I'm sure she can beat this horrible disease!

I am very sorry to hear about your mom. My mom has gone through the same thing. She went in for a mastectomy when Isaac was 2 days old and proceeded with chemo and radiation. It has been 4 years and she is doing amazing. With the positive outlook that your mom has, she is going to do awesome and get over this bump in the road stronger than ever.

I am so sorry to hear about your Momma. I only just read your post today and feel bad that I didn't mention anything to you this week when we hung out. I hope you are doing ok. It has go to be hard to be away from her right now, but soon enough you'll be there for good by her side. Thank you for the rescue help again this week for our family. It is super hard without family isn't it? You guys have been our family our here. After all, everyone thinks we are part of the Trapnell gang anyways.

We are so sorry to hear that the lump turned out to be cancer! We hope all goes well with the chemo and that she is feeling great again soon. What a blessing to have so much family so close.
