I know there are a lot of viruses going around with the sudden onset of fall we have experienced in Jacksonville, and I think I may have rooted out the source of the bugs we are all fighting. So far it has been very mild--Kyla has a runny nose, Allie has a little cough, and Damon's nose is "fluffy" (he denied that it was "stuffy").
Yesterday, Damon was performing the after school ritual of emptying his lunchbag and eating what was left (along with an apple, which he seems to be collecting daily). He had an empty Capri Sun pouch in there as well, and he pulled it out, trying to make me fall for the it's-really-empty-but-I-blew-air-in-it-to-make-you-think-it's-full stunt (I played along, not having the heart to tell him that I INVENTED that trick in elementary school--didn't we all?). I asked him where he had gotten the drink, thinking it may come from the same child who graciously shares her apples with him. Nope. He replied, "I found it in the trash and I took it."
Remember that he has been blowing into the straw repeatedly, and even managed to get me to put my lips on it (you know, so I could pretend to fall for his prank). My lips suddenly started to tingle as I thought about the many of diseases that could be spread by "sharing" this straw with a random Ft. Caroline Elementary student. Fortunately, I don't know of any specific diseases I should be wary of (Jeff, on the other hand, would probably know them all), and I simply crossed my fingers and hoped that our immune systems would be able to handle them all. Now I suppose I need to sit down with my son and share with him the reasons why we don't take things out of the trash (even if it is an eclair, still in its wrapper, with only a single bite taken out--anyone know that reference?).

Yeah...you remember me! Thanks for the kuddos. I have actually seen waffle irons that have the 4 mini waffles on it. If you and your budget are up to it I would look at places like bed, bath and beyond or on line. Otherwise you could always use the non plastic cookie cutters and make your own pancake shapes to entice. My kids are just grateful to have a mom that cares again! The last 4ish years have been a bit dicy. Vernal is such a blessing. Vernal...ha! :)
Seinfeld reference, right???
oh boy...thus the life of school goers. What doesnt kill em only makes em stronger...
I love the "jokes" kids pull.
So...yesterday I talked to Mr. Whitmer at my school and asked if he had any Esplins and he totally remembered teaching you years ago! He even remembered your name without me telling him (now that's something!). He told me that you are in his top ten list of best and most sharp students ever taught. Way to be!
Adjacent to refuse is refuse!
Seinfeld.
We have the same cold circulating in our home. I think we caught it on the plane...although I did see some capri suns lying around...
Tanner too has been "tricking me" with his Capri Sun, but he hasn't gone to kindergarten, so I'm pretty sure they've only been juice bags I've given him. Here's to a healthy holiday season!
We can only hope that Mimi threw that Capri Sun away just before Damon picked it up? She gets nothing but Capri Sun's in her lunch everyday. Mimi is healthy at the moment.
that's awesome! and i totally just put this exact comment on denise's blog...because it related to Dave, so i'll share again:
Jerry Seinfeld: So let me get this straight. You find yourself in the kitchen. You see an éclair in the receptacle... and you think to yourself: "What the hell, I'll just eat some trash."
George Costanza: No, no, no. It was not trash.
Jerry: Was it in the trash?
George: Yes.
Jerry: Then it was trash.
George: It wasn't down in. It was sort of on top.
Jerry: But it was in the cylinder.
George: Above the rim.
Jerry: Adjacent to refuse is
refuse.
George: It was on a magazine, and it still had the doily on.
Jerry: Was it eaten?
George: One little bite.
Jerry: Well, that's garbage.
George: But I know who took the bite. It was her aunt.
Jerry: You, my friend, have crossed the line that divides man and bum. You are now a bum.
